Lance Thompson

VP of Engineering

Dr. Lance Thompson joined Lightwave Logic in September 2025 as Vice President of Engineering. He brings extensive experience leading optical communications product development across some of the industry’s largest transceiver companies, with a demonstrated ability to scale products from the design phase through volume production.

Before joining Lightwave Logic, Thompson served as Director of Transceiver Engineering at Coherent, where he architected and developed the first transceiver modules for 200 Gbps per lane applications. Previously, he was the Senior Director of Waveguide Technologies at Lumentum, leading development of advanced materials. He has also held director-level product development roles at Kaiam Corporation and Sumitomo Electric Device Innovations. 

Thompson earned his doctorate in electrical engineering from Colorado State University and holds six US patents, with additional applications pending.
